“The price of living, the art of suffering.“
UK-based post-hardcore four-piece, Static Dress, have announced their sophomore album, Injury Episode, which will be released on May 29th of this year. Accompanying the release is a new single, Nostalgia Kills, featuring long-term friends and scene icons Underoath, with both vocalists appearing on the track. Spanning 15 tracks, the band was keen to say that this album is them at their truest form, with every track written and recorded as a collective, with all members sitting down in a room and chipping away at it piece by piece.
Fans in attendance at the band’s mysterious “Live Death Display” event in Covent Garden, London, were treated to the news ahead of the general public, with the band treating them to an experience like no other. Taking place in a disused Odeon cinema, fans were led into a converted cinema screen with a stage at the front. A short cinematic was played, with ex-bassist Connor Reilly acting as a narrator of sorts. This cinematic included brand new, never-before-seen live renditions of plenty of fan favourite tracks, including “crying“, “face.“, “Attempt 8” and many more. We’ll refrain from spoilers in this article, but know that this cinematic was dripping with new lore for the band, answering some questions, and asking plenty more. Following this, the band’s new single was introduced, with the music video also being played as part of the cinematic. This was then rounded off with a narration from vocalist Olli Appleyard, who expressed his thanks for the dedicated fans, before then announcing their new album, Injury Episode, which is releasing via Sumerian Records on the 29th of May.
That was not all, though, with the band then taking to the stage themselves and putting on a performance for the history books. With one of the venue’s stipulations being that all phones and photography equipment were sealed in magnetic-locked bags, all fans were forced to live in the moment and soak up the energy in the room – and they absolutely did, with two-steppers and stage-divers coming out in full force. This live set included the live debut of the new single “Nostalgia Kills” alongside a slew of fan-favourites from across the band’s discography. It truly was a celebration of what was, and what is still to come.
Following the performance, attendees were given the opportunity to place pre-orders ahead of the general public, alongside being able to purchase many exclusive goodies, including a poster, a goody bag containing a signed and numbered BTS photo album, and “I heard it first” shirts and hoodies to commemorate the occasion. Suffice it to say, the event was a huge success, with the queue for these items wrapping around the bar room’s entire perimeter. Oh, and as if that wasn’t enough, a brand new GameBoy game was also made available for purchase. “The Place Of No Ends” acts as chapter II in the band’s ongoing saga, and provides plenty of new insights into the lore of Injury Episode’s main characters, Sarah and Meave – keep an eye out for updates to our lore article and a sequel to our Rouge Carpet Disaster game articles very soon.
