Dobbin recommends: In Faith and Misery are already back with a single after dropping their debut LP back in February. The slam attitude is strong on “In Faith and Misery” as it wields riffs that are pointedly ignorant, and the growled vocals are delivered as if staring down the floor. But their deathcore style wins out by the end as it closes on a slowdown breakdown that teeters on absolute collapse. It’s topped off with an honest production style that is unique to the genre, sounding like a timeless gem you found on a download site twenty years ago.

Alex recommends: Baltimore’s “soul punk” trailblazers nightlife return from a two-year hiatus with the scorching “u know”. Pulling from their love of 2000s pop, the track delivers a slinking, addictive groove reminiscent of classic cuts by Timbaland and The Neptunes. Lead vocalist Hansel Romero’s hook writing game remains in an elite class all its own, with his acrobatic vocal runs rivalling the best of his R&B heartthrob idols.

Jack recommends: Australia has long been celebrated for its metalcore exports. Known for high-octane, riff-driven tunes, the scene gets a fresh spark with satellites were set alight and Alera, who bring revivalist energy and prove they can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their US and UK peers. In just 19 minutes, A Selfish Endeavour showcases some of the country’s most promising young talent, and with a feature from the equally impressive Ends In Tragedy, it’s clear these bands mean business. Expect to see their names a lot more – they’re on the verge of something huge.

Joe recommends: After the remarkable A Vivid Depiction Of Collapse last year, Wounded Touch quickly return on They Promised Eden (Vol. 1) which sees them unleash some of their heaviest material to date. Touching on the brutal edges of their sound, both “Removing The Arrows” and “A Weapon In God’s Country” point a fierce finger at the powers that be, while as they say themselves, enforcing the unbreakable human spirit.
