Dobbin recommends: Sunday Best are one of the busiest bands on London’s alt circuit and are highly deserving of breakout success. On this track they’ve upped their game, injecting some technicolour with swancore-esque noodles and their most infectious pop vocals yet. With a crazy outro and a glorious chorus, “Cleopatra, In A Past Life” is for sure their best track yet.
Alyce Smith – fixation_ (Single)

Shane recommends: Transcendent ambience with that familiar punch of foundational cybergrind is exactly what you’d expect from one half of buttom surgery, and Alyce Smith turns every gear with “fixation_”. Biomechanical blast beats and melody front to back supplement a seamless fluctuation between fry screams and hypnotic cleans, all topped off with impeccable production.
Cloned Apparition – Stain (Single)

Joe recommends: Cloned Apparition are back with a fresh line-up and have announced their debut full-length, Parallel, with new single “Strain” being the first taste of the upcoming record. It’s a mix of grunge, shoegaze and nu-metal which Clone Apparition barrel through, with rapid beats into some thick riffs and drums that are neatly pronounced. All of this is topped off with Turcot’s cathartic and atmospheric vocals, showcasing that Parallel could be another surprise package this year.
Rakuyo – Knee Deep In The Dead (Single)

Dobbin recommends: As ever, Rakuyo put their influences to a glorious forefront through samples and aesthetics, and all the while their holistic sound is compelling as ever. On “Knee Deep In The Dead” they are truly dual wielding: in the main hand, they swing with grit and gnarl as the guitars and vocals burst from the seams, and in the off-hand, they stay true to their melodic influences without blunting a single thing. A dirge-like march ensues at the track’s end to the peal of a great bell; a fitting soundtrack for pyrrhic victory.
