STAFF PICKS
Artifiction – BARE (Single)

Dobbin recommends: “BARE” demonstrates sublime taste for tech metalcore from Swiss unit Artifiction. Out of the gate, we’re gripped by the production and performances, something they’ve honed since their debut album VIVA towards their upcoming second. The band keep it harsh throughout, not needing to revert to candid cleans, delivering a melodic without blunting themselves. There’s an intensification towards the track’s end that’s so much more than a breakdown – it feels like a continuous story being told, arcing towards a bad ending that leaves you decked in a wash of reverb.
Fanchon – Ghost (Single)

Dobbin recommends: The third single from Fanchon‘s most exciting release cycle yet. There are many moments in “Ghost” which are catching – the beat switches, arresting vocals, progressive tendencies, and grit of all the heavy guitars. A special quality to “Ghost” and Fanchon is how sparse they feel when it comes to the key moments of contemplation, buoyed by impeccable production that doesn’t over-do things. The resulting atmosphere makes the August Malmström album art so very fitting.

Joe recommends: Two years since the release of Regeneration, GUHTS make an emphatic return on their brand new single “CURRENTS“. It brings all the sludge and post-metal goodness that the project has made itself known for. These are riffs that rumble as they ruminate, matched with menacing vocals that have a ritualistic manner to them, all making for a mesmerising yet eerie listen.
Soulprison – Revelation of Evil (Single)

Joe recommends: After being the standout act at Bristol’s Foefest last weekend, Soulprison are back with an absolute heater of a track with “Revelation of Evil“. It’s bursting with punchy metallic riffs, akin to that of the likes of Guilt Trip, yet the band have that cutting edge added to make them hit just that bit harder. Topped off with some gnarly, commanding vocals, there is a palpable brutality to Soulprison which makes it feel much closer to the UKHC of the previous decade. This will make the Stuttgart act a new favourite both in the UK and across Europe.
