STAFF PICKS
BLYTHE – Homestead (Single)

Dobbin recommends: Manchester not-quite-newcomers BLYTHE have been diligently building a roster of singles, with the first 2026 entrant coming today. With a ferocious vocal performance and tried-and-absolutely-true riffs, it’s a certified banger, with a special shout out to the burst of drumwork at its close. A special quality of “Homestead” is how it fuses its genres in ways that truly represent them, yet the production brings closeness warm buzz akin to slowcore. This is certainly one for fans of Fleshwater and far beyond.
Ethereal Tomb – Destroyed With Regret (Single)

Dobbin recommends: Across many tours and excellent support slots, scene grinders Ethereal Tomb have been showing the US what a good three-piece can do. “Destroyed With Regret” is a trident to the heart to prove it. With a sound like this, Ethereal Tomb have me advocating for ‘extreme metal’ as a genre more and more – why split hairs over their precise melding of doom, sludge, thrash, punk, and hardcore; just call it a good fucking time.
Private Prisons – Tyrants (Single)

Dobbin recommends: Speaking of extreme things happening in the US, Private Prisons have a claustrophobic experience to offer in “Tyrants“. A churning, suffocating intro to this huge track creates a space where anything could happen once the band collapses in on us. When this gives way to determined tom grooves and curdled vocals, the only way to go is through. They build toward a realm of sheer noise, far beyond the limits of what most acts in the post/noise metal space can muster. This will be the penultimate track on their upcoming LP which is set to cast a light on the grim underbelly of their home turf of Orange County.
Swamp Coffin – Everything Is Nothing (Single)

Mais recommends: Sludge & doom have been a recent addition to my listening habits, and since discovering them at this year’s Tonehenge Nottingham, Swamp Coffin have been in my continuous rotation, and I highly recommend getting them in your own. Seeing their return with their crushing new single, “Everything Is Nothing“, which blends immense riffs, bleak atmosphere and the band’s trademark intensity. The track is another release, uncompromising of heaviness, that hits hard, raw and with crushing weight. If you’re attending, be sure to catch them at ArcTanGent, Yohkai Stage, 1pm Wednesday, Damnation Fest, Sunday, or other upcoming appearances. You will not regret it!
