The highly anticipated debut album from Manchester’s Witch Fever has today been announced, titled Congregation, the full-length record will release later this year containing 13 tracks. With this announcements comes the second single and title track of the album, “Congregation” submerges itself into delirious post-punk. The accompanying video can be viewed below.
On the single, vocalist Walpole said, “This is Alisha’s personal fave! It marks a new step in our development as songwriters as it’s something different from what we’ve done before. We allowed ourselves to experiment with space and dynamics and we love it!”. The record draws on Walpole’s experience of growing up in a Charismatic Church, a branch of Christianity that focuses on the the work of the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, and modern-day miracles. Departing the church when saw 16, her parents followed in her footsteps two years later.
Walpole comments on the album, “As our first album we’re really excited to just get it out there. We feel that it’s a step above what we’ve done before as we had a chance to experiment with sound and structure. It was our first opportunity to explore writing a body of work which was challenging but has been so rewarding!”.
She continues, “It pushed our creative process because we also had to think about the songs sitting side by side on an album! We tried to break out of what makes a typical ‘witch fever’ song whilst still being true to what makes our sound what it is.”
Witch Fever have come one of the blue chip prospects in the UK, with their endeavours earning them a nomination of the Heavy Music Award’s “Best UK Breakthrough Artist”. They will also open for My Chemical Romance at their upcoming show in Milton Keynes, then had off on a slew of festival performances including Outbreak, 2000Trees and R&L Festival.
Congregation will release on October 21st via Music For Nations. You can pre-order the record here, and view the albums tracklist and artwork below. For further news on Witch Fever and a review of Congregation, keep an eye on Boolin Tunes.
