Hot on the heels of their recently-released EP CHRONICLES I: LUST, crushing metalcore outfit Void Of Vision have returned with stellar new song ‘DOMINATRIX’, likely taken from the next entry in the CHRONICLES series.
‘DOMINATRIX’ is an utterly gorgeous track that toys with an ethereal, dark-pop vocal hook, marking a step into uncharted territory for Void Of Vision. Further, the song explores a lustful relationship between (presumably) lead songwriter and vocalist Jack Bergin and an unknown lover. Typically one to write on topics such as nihilism, self-loathing and spiralling apathy, Bergin leans into sensualism and intimacy with standout lyrics like “Our risqué symphony / My Aphrodite / I’ve been holding onto smoke / Just to see the way love let me go.”
On the writing of ‘DOMINATRIX’, Bergin remarks: “The [writing] process began with that simple chorus vocal hook and ended up with our most adventurous attempt at a piece of work yet. I have never written or attempted to pen a ‘love song’ before, but this one just came extremely easily to me.”
Speaking on the overall composition of the song, Bergin says: “The lyricism of ‘DOMINATRIX’, while quite foreign within a Void Of Vision song, is really complimented by the track’s pace, flaunting a certain urgency, a longing for excitement and stimulation.”
‘DOMINATRIX’ will most likely reappear on CHRONICLES II, which we predict will be released via UNFD sometime in 2022. For more Void Of Vision coverage, stick around on Boolin Tunes.
