Alternative-rock hypergiants Thrice have just unveiled the identity of their eleventh album — Horizons/East, as well as the lead single, “Scavengers”. You can enjoy the official visualiser for the new single below.
“Scavengers” is the first Thrice material to be released this side of the pandemic, with their last release, Palms — Deeper Wells (EP) releasing on April 13th 2019 as a supplementary piece to tenth album Palms. Here, Thrice kick off this fresh album cycle with an infectious, simple riff that is sure to immediately remind audiences of similar sounds found in “Passenger” by Deftones. This is no negative, however, as “Scavengers” successfully captivates with moody drum grooves by Riley Breckenridge, and lead vocalist Dustin Kensrue’s, signature gritty, melodious vocal tones. I’ve had this song on loop since receiving news of this announcement; each listen feels like an adventure through desolate desert hills in a post-apocalyptic world.
When talking about the new single, Thrice’s said the following: “the song is – but also kind of isn’t – a thing of the past. Whether lost in a media diet that is essentially a disinformation pipeline or, relatedly, trapped in fear of a future of eternal conscious pain, Kensrue speaks of “toxic worldviews I once inhabited,” and in truth, “a lot of people that I love are still in that place.”
Horizons/East is due for release on September 17th 2021 via Epitaph Records. The album is available for pre-order here, and you can find the official artwork and track-listing below. For more coverage of Thrice, Horizons/East and all things music in general, stick around on Boolin Tunes.
