Steadily emerging from a sea of golden and silver lights, the silhouette of a glamorous character emerges. Suavely suited, perfectly poised. The name? Charlton. Jacob Charlton.
It’s fair to say that many have desperately awaited more news on Thornhill’s second studio album following the critical acclaimed debut record The Dark Pool, in addition to the promising new direction teased through singles “Casanova” and “Arkangel”. Now, armed with third single “Hollywood”, Thornhill have lifted the curtain on their sophomore record. Welcome to Heroine.
Across eleven tracks, Thornhill present an immersive audiovisual experience through the seedy underbelly of 1900’s Hollywood, onto busy film sets of glitz and glamour and into moonlit, starry sidewalks. Mixed by George Lever and composed with the powerful thematic backdrop of 20th Century American cinema, Heroine is set to be a truly different experience to that offered by The Dark Pool. This stark difference has already irked many across the internet, yet Thornhill are defiant and unafraid as they mature both stylistically and personally.
The aforementioned Jacob Charlton (vocals) alongside Ethan McCann (guitars/production) brought Heroine into existence through developing a profound affection of Hollywood’s artistic charm. Tailoring evident sonic influences from the likes of Loathe and Silverchair and weaving them into the visual inspiration of James Bond and other Hollywood classics, Thornhill have thus far crafted something genuinely new in metal, and nowhere is this more apparent than with new single, “Hollywood”.
On the meaning of “Hollywood”, Charlton comments: “The premise of the song follows a protagonist, who is coming to terms with being in love with another girl he’s just met while still being in a relationship that has been slowly falling apart around him. This one-in-a-million encounter with someone who has changed his entire world in a matter of glances is the theme we follow throughout until he finally builds the courage to say it.”
Expanding on the storyline of the song, Charlton goes on to say: “He makes little decisions, puts his current partner in a bad light to make himself feel like he’s in the right, and calls her names as she begs him to announce his true feelings for someone he’s met in Hollywood.”
Heroine by Thornhill will release on Friday June 3rd 2022 via UNFD, and pre-orders for the record can be found here. Further, the official artwork and tracklist for Heroine can be found below. For more on Thornhill, including our upcoming review of Heroine, stay with us at Boolin Tunes.
