Masked quartet Sleep Token have been sending waves across the metal community over the last few weeks, teasing new music via a number of ARGs, including QR codes found at locations around the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. All signs pointed towards a March 13th release to coincide with the blood moon, and the British outfit have indeed released a new single, “Emergence“, which is a six-and-a-half-minute voyage through a variety of genres.
Alongside the single comes the announcement of their upcoming fourth studio album, Even In Arcadia, which is set to release May 9th, nearly two years exactly from their previous, and will feature ten tracks totaling just shy of an hour. The title comes from Nicolas Poussin’s famous painting, and is also featured on the Shepherd’s Monument which served as an important aspect of the initial campaign. The incomplete form of the phrase Et in Arcadia ego (which is commonly translated as ‘Even in Arcadia, there I am’), combined with the dual-perspective narrative being constructed, will no doubt spark speculation regarding this being the first part of a double-album.
Beyond that, an arena tour across the continental United States has also been announced for the fall. This comes after big European festival spots in Download and Rock Am Ring in June. Ahead of the announcement, several venues changed the profile pictures on their social media platforms to the logos of either House Veridian or Feathered Hosts, and billboards displayed the phrase ‘Have you been waiting long for me?’
