Baltimore unit Pianos Become The Teeth have announced their upcoming record, titled Drift, which is set for release this coming August. The record will be the group’s fifth studio record and follow on from 2018’s Wait For Love. Arriving with the announcement comes the record’s first single, “Genevieve“, which sees Pianos Become The Teeth take a further shift away from their post-hardcore routes. The video for it can be viewed below.
Many of Drift’s tracks were recorded through to a 1960’s Echoplex analogue tape echo, a similar methodology used to Loathe on I Let It In and It Took Everything. Throughout the record, the tracks were manipulated by hand to create a unique listening experience. Pianos Become the Teeth worked with producer Kevin Bernsten, who recorded their first two projects, Old Pride and The Lack Long After. Commenting on working with Bernsten again, Kyle Durfey says, “Kevin knows who we used to be and he knows who we are now and he was really down to experiment and try anything in the studio to see how it would work.”
Originally starting out as a post-hardcore unit on the aforementioned records, Pianos Become The Teeth began to introduce softer elements to their sound with 2014’s Keep You. Tracks such as “895” and “Repine” maintained their mellow atmosphere whilst leaning in a post-rock direction. Now, with Drift, the five-piece will further refine their sound by introducing new elements to elevate their artistic vision.
Drift will release on August 26th via Epitaph Records. You can pre-order the record here, and view the tracklist and album artwork below. For a full review of Drift and further news on Pianos Become The Teeth, stick with Boolin Tunes.
