Maryland djent veterans Periphery have announced their brand new, aptly-titled studio album, Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre, and released two brand new singles: “Wildfire” and “Zagreus”.
Releasing on March 10th, almost four years following the group’s last stint in 2019’s Periphery IV: Hail Stan, the prog metal quintet seem intent on doubling down on the wildly heavy and appropriately progged-up sound of that record with this brand new material. While both songs stand at the heavier end of Periphery soundscape, “Zagreus” stands out as one of the most sprawling and dynamic tracks the band have ever written. All the while, “Wildfire” sets out to make a lasting first impression, with biting grooves and manic screams strewn throughout its lengthy runtime, with both tracks clocking in at eight and seven minutes respectively.
Further, standing as the group’s seventh studio album, Periphery V’s initial impression proves to be one of the strongest of their career, and proves that the US djent forefathers aren’t short on creative juice just yet.
Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre will release on March 10th via the band’s own label, 3DOT Recordings, and you can find pre-orders here. Additionally, you can find the album’s artwork and official track listing below. For all things Periphery, djent and music in general, including our forthcoming review of the record, keep it locked on Boolin Tunes.
