Aussie metalcore legends Northlane have shared details of their upcoming sixth studio album, titled Obsidian, and shared a rave-heavy new single titled “Echo Chamber“. The track’s hilarious music video can be viewed below.
The announcement comes hot off the heels of the announcement earlier this year that the Aussie unit would going fully independent after an extended stay on UNFD since the group’s earliest releases. Being a now fully independent unit, the group have opted to, much like many of their peers in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, fund their endeavors through Patreon. You can find the link to their page, aptly titled the WORLDEATERS, here.
Further, Obsidian‘s announcement follows three releases from Northlane in 2021: the 5G remix EP, 2D acoustic EP, and the standalone single “Clockwork“, the latter of which was written for a Rainbow Six e-sports tournament. “Clockwork” will also feature on the upcoming album, serving as the project’s second track.
“It’s hard to be on the internet without seeing people get continuously angry about something,” says frontman Marcus Bridge about “Echo Chamber“. “We’re addicted to having a hot take about nothing and it’s quite exhausting. At the same time, I shouldn’t let it bother me that much but it’s like a ringing in my ears after a while, so I’m praying I go deaf.”
Promising to expand on the ballistic electronics of 2019’s smash hit Alien, it seems Obsidian is shaping up to be the most diverse and expansive Northlane release to date.
Obsidian is due for release on April 1st, 2022 via self-release/Believe, and you can pre-order the album here. Further, you can view the album’s official track listing and artwork below. For all things Northlane, metalcore and music in general, keep it locked on Boolin Tunes.
