Sydney metalcore kings Northlane have announced a new acoustic EP, 2D, and shared the first taste with an acoustic rendition of “Rift.” You can find the official track stream below.
Speaking on the EP, vocalist Marcus Bridge had the following to say:
“Recording an acoustic EP is something that we’ve wanted to do for quite some time and felt right with the personal nature of the songs from Alien. I wanted to strip these songs back to the bare minimum to juxtapose the soundscapes of the album, a 2D version of sorts. A song like “Rift” has a completely different energy in this context and took on new meaning with the recording in the depths of lockdown, now almost feeling like a cry of frustration and despair.”
The EP follows the release of their tongue-in-cheek titled remix EP 5G back in February, which saw the group collaborate with the likes of HEALTH and Mashd N Kutcher to create remixes of some of the band’s most beloved tracks from Alien and Node. Both 2D and 5G are now available for a limited run of physical pre-orders on UNFD’s official merch store.
As well as 5G, the group shared a standalone single back in March titled “Clockwork.” The song served as the group’s first fully independent release, and further as the official theme to the Rainbow Six Siege Oceanic Nationals this year.
While it is yet unknown when Northlane’s hotly anticipated sixth studio album will drop, the group have been hard at work in the studio recently, and have been sharing videos from the studio on Tik Tok showing them in the recording process.
