Newsletter 10-01-22: UK & EU Tour Cancellations, January Releases + More

We return for the second newsletter of 2022, the previous newsletter can be found here. In which we covered Vein.fm’s new album, Static Dress album announcement, Sargent House 2022’s releases and more. This week’s will be taking a look at some of the recent tour cancellations, a busy week for album announcements plus releases and Darko’s new single.

ERRA, The Plot In You & Holding Absence Cancel UK and EU tours

To little surprise but with much disappointment; ERRA, The Plot In You and Holding Absence have all cancelled their tours for February and March which would see them tour across Europe with both the former also touring the UK. All three of these tours are cancellations, as opposed to being postponed which has previously been seen with tours such as August Burns Red headliner. These are linked to the restrictions put in places such as Germany and France, which has seen the closure of nightclubs, banning of large-scale musical events and sporting events. ERRA issued the following statement on their Instagram:

To provide a little context, stricter regulations were introduced in Germany and elsewhere in Europe back in November, which have only tightened through the holidays. From what we’ve come to understand from our team in Europe, promoters in some of the countries we’re hitting (while technically allowed to put on shows) are limited to heavily reduced capacities (some as low as 25%). Along with this revelation, there are also the major financial risks associated with any of us testing positive for Covid, the primary risk being forced to forfeit our transportation rental on the spot and not only unable to play, but also being stranded in another continent without a means of transporting all of our gear.

While the UK has little of these restrictions it is still seeing shows delayed over safety concerns and inability to complete the tour if a positive COVID case is found. For bands travelling from North America, the costs of tours being cancelled can climb into the tens of thousands so it is unlikely we will see many of their bands until well into 2022. Whether or not this will effect tours heading into April and May such as the END and Fit For An Autopsy headliners is yet to be seen.

First “Busy” Week For Releases and Announcements In 2022

In previous years January, and even February, have respectively been quiet months for music. With 2021’s first major releases of Architects and Teenage Wrist not arriving until the final weeks of February. This second Friday of 2022 has seen the release of albums from Fit For An Autopsy, Pridelands, The Weeknd, Underoath and Fickle Friends. Plus in what has been one of the biggest weeks for deathcore in a while with release from Enterprise Earth and Shadow of Intent arriving alongside the aforementioned Fit For An Autopsy. A full round of last Friday’s releases can be found here. With this came announcements of EPs and full-lengths from Heriot, The Oklahoma Kid, Stand Atlantic and Blood Command.

Brutality Will Prevail Farwell Tour

Following on from the announcement that as a group, Brutality Will Prevail be dissolving, they have now announced a string of final shows as part of a farewell tour. Starting in 2005 with six albums under their belt, the latest being Misery Sequence. The album featured Brendan Murphy on track “End of Me” and Toni Coe-Brooker on “Breathless”, topping of what will be a fitting final album for the Welsh group. Current frontman Louis Gauthier replaced Ajay Jones in 2012. The tour will see Brutality Will Prevail visit Germany, France and finish up in the UK, with Last Witness as support.
