Smoked909 – tIEd up, Vol. 2 (EP)

Joe recommends: At the ever-busier intersection between death and hardcore metal, Smoked909 make California proud. “No Place To Die” presents a foul mix of chainsaw tones, hardman gutterals, and even some atypical songwriting turns. It drops along with the pit-starting “Intro” and “Dead Bent” which features fellow Cali slammers 97minutes.
Rawzilk – कオज़ (EP)

Dobbin recommends: Among many exciting releases today, Rawzilk have dropped their second album of the year. This is zany electronic music with no rules, where no idea is too strange; a kaleidoscope’s own cutting room floor. Varied genre parodies include “horazul” on synthwave and “18 bells for waders” on dungeon synth, and “keep quiet” embraces Muslimgauze-type rhythms. The winding “drug fueled rants from my lonely man” claws its way from grainy VHS prison to an epic conclusion. Danceable moments emerge from esoteric sounds on “the spektral outline of your figure” and “post millenium tension“. It’s like finding a lost Oneothrix Point Never mixtape.

Jonathan recommends: Desolate make their surprise return with the menacing “karoshi”. Bringing back their signature brand of nu-metalcore, the New York outfit have not lost their touch one bit. Production from Josh Schroeder and a vicious feature from Rotnest lend even more impact to an already crushing track.

Maximo recommends: As predictably a chaotic endeavour as ever, ZOMBIESHARK‘s latest venture into the cybergrind sphere with “Heads I Win, Tales You Lose, You Are My Sunshine.” is a wholly unhinged and absurd slice of violence. Glitched out, punchy production; manic vocals; and tasteful sampling all work together to form the freakish, yet alluring Frankenstein’s monster that is ZOMBIESHARK‘s core sound.
