STAFF PICKS
Away With Words – Spiderwebs (Single)

Anthony recommends: South Florida emo darlings Away With Words are back with an updated lineup and their catchiest track to date. While it’s still the same band we all know and love, “Spiderwebs” sees them slam the door wide open and heavily expand on the sound they’ve been working on with the instant classic What To Think About Again EP and “Taste Blood”. Currently being the band’s poppiest and most theatrical release, “Spiderwebs” surprisingly does not feature a single breakdown. Instead, they’ve been replaced with dual vocals, piano licks, and finger tapping guitar sections. No other current band could make this combination sound appealing, but Away With Words does so with ease. This is their best track, and solidifies the fact that this band will be a force to be reckoned with. Get ready to see their name everywhere as they continue to get better, and here’s to hoping this leads to their debut full length release.
Dead Flesh – Vile Resurrection (Single)

Dobbin recommends: By welcoming Kieran Storrie on vocals, Dead Flesh breached a new layer of evil. This is a frantic deathcore track with pitched drones and determined fist-clencthing choruses. “Vile Resurrection” comes brandishing a new level of production for the band that immediately puts them into the big leagues. Keeping up with these insane circle pit riffs will require sprinters at the ready.
Fly Over States – 641A (Single)

Jack recommends: Following up 2024’s Ghosts EP was always going to be a tough ask, but with “641A”, Fly Over States have shattered all expectations. Doubling down on the zanier, mathy side of their sound, “641A” is a frantic post-hardcore epic. Twinkly melodies find themselves littered amongst a barrage of pummelling drums and riffy guitars, only enhancing the chaos. Despite still being somewhat fresh-faced, Fly Over States possess an ability which far exceeds their years. A force to be reckoned with, if their next release (whatever form that comes in) is as strong as this single, then we’ll have another release of the year contender in our midst.

Sam recommends: Launched by a seamless transition from the band’s previous track, heaving.’s latest single, “if i cried out”, packs quite a punch, mixing their post-hardcore groove with crazy nu metal bounce, evolving their sound even further and setting them apart from their revivalist contemporaries. Groovy bass solos, bendy riffs, punchy drum fills, it’s all here, with frontman Morgan Stricklin switching from the verse’s harsh growls to floaty choral cleans on a dime. “if i cried out” also marks heaving.’s heaviest outing to date, culminating in a blistering breakdown before setting up a transition into a future track. heaving. are on the cusp of evolution, expanding their sound with each new release. What they will evolve into remains to be seen, but whatever it is, be sure to keep an eye on it. It’ll be special.
