Dobbin recommends: Alcest make a welcome return with their first music this side of 2020. Kicking things off with their standard 8 minute epics, Alcest hands us immediate classic. “L’Envol” (“The Flight”) takes after Kodama‘s prog influenced tracks, where Neige‘s harsh vocals hit only when they really need to, and Winterhaulter’s drums have never been more frenetic. I adore the post-climax dronescape, and I’m hoping the record is full of such vignettes.

Dobbin recommends: This week’s hardcore heavy hitter comes via Reviler from South Carolina, keeping us placated with another single. The bass whips and cracks in the technical breaks, and pissed vocals leave no energy behind. The closing “how many black boxes?” breakdown is nutty as nails.
