This week’s round-up of all the new metalcore, post-hardcore, alternative, and indie releases, as well as picks from our staff.
STAFF PICKS
Northlane – Obsidian [FULL REVIEW]
Label – Independent
(Spotify/Apple Music)
Max recommends: Northlane‘s Obsidian is a bold continuation of the band’s recent reinvention of their sound, starting with 2019’s Alien. An obtuse and polarizing initial listen is almost guaranteed, but once you sink your teeth into the meat of this record, it only grows on you. One of the strongest metalcore releases of the decade so far. Also, “Cypher” is fucking MENTAL.
Static Dress – Fleahouse (Single)
Label – Independent
(Spotify/Apple Music)
Joe recommends: “Fleahouse” will leave listeners wondering if the UK’s finest group Static Dress can do no wrong. The unit now firmly have their foot on the pedal towards releasing what will be one of 2022’s best records.
Brand of Sacrifice x We Came As Romans – Darkbloom (Reimagined)
Label – SHARPTONE
(Spotify/Apple Music)
Harry recommends: Brand of Sacrifice reimagine We Came As Romans’ “Darkbloom” in a collaboration that is essentially BoS featuring Stephens’ clean chorus. The added symphonic elements, gnarly vocals, and monstrous breakdowns have turned a middling metalcore track into a true classic.
Veil of Maya – Synthwave Vegan (Single)
Label – Sumerian Records
(Spotify/Apple Music)
Max recommends: Veil of Maya return with the strangely titled “Synthwave Vegan“, a song that, despite how its name may present, is far and away the heaviest VoM have sounded in almost a decade. Choppy, djenty and violent as all fuck, “Synthwave Vegan” is an absolute blast, and if it’s a sign of things to come, VoM may have their strongest album yet to come.
chaos.sequence – the ties that bend the flesh and mind (EP)
Label – Independent
(Spotify/Apple Music)
Joe recommends: Bristol‘s answer to the likes of Loathe and ten56. has emerged in the form of chaos.sequence. Strap in for one of 2022’s heaviest EP’s yet including the hair-raisingly heavy single “fault_index” featuring Aaron Matts, alongside four other brutal belters.
