“How far will we go, until we lose it all?“
Following a string of tours in support of their 2022 breakout record Pain Remains, Lorna Shore went musically dormant for almost three years in what felt like an obtrusively solvent ice age to many. Now, after months of buildup and intermittent teasers, New Jersey’s blackened deathcore overlords have reawakened with their longest lead single to date in “Oblivion“. Alongside the release comes the announcement of their forthcoming fifth studio album, I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me, which is set to release September 12th.
“Oblivion” is the asymmetric embodiment of every ounce of anguish Lorna Shore have surmounted in their climb to the top of deathcore’s jagged hills. Methodically built up into an eruption of pensive anger, Will Ramos is as dynamically versatile as ever amidst the staunchly coupled riff work of Adam De Micco and Andrew O’Connor. Further strengthened by Austin Archey’s machine-gun drumming and Mike Yager’s helldive-deep bass drops, Lorna Shore exemplifies an eight-minute gold standard of sonic despair that is only reinforced tenfold by tastefully integrated symphonics and production.
A lead-off single of this length would be a brave — albeit foolish — decision for practically any other group of comparable popularity. Yet with Lorna Shore, this is predestined. “Oblivion” provides a uniformly partitioned set of variety throughout its runtime. If this track is anything to go by, Lorna Shore are well on their way to enumerating another beautifully despondent addition to an already seismic discography. To celebrate the record, the band will also be embarking on a North American tour in the fall with The Black Dahlia Murder, Shadow of Intent, and Peeling Flesh.
