Portland’s Emma Ruth Rundle has today released the first of three tracks from her upcoming EP Orpheus Looking Back. The track, titled “Pump Organ Song“, moves away from the strings and piano that were ever-present on the record and ushers in a droning organ. The small collection of songs which will see their release later this month, were all recorded alongside Engine of Hell. The latest release can be listened to below.
Discussing the single, Rundle notes, “In the year that has come since recording the song, I feel more and more connected to this love song. It is still speaking to me about the process of parting ways and how romantic arrangements change and relationships close.”
Emma Ruth Rundle returned after three years with Engine of Hell in November of last year, featuring some of her finest work in “Return“, “Body” and “Razor’s Edge“. With the record overall marking a departure from the heavy instrumentation of drums and electric guitars, and seeing a move towards the lone usage of piano and acoustic strings. Our 10/10 review of Engine of Hell can be read here.
The EP will see its release ahead of Rundle’s appearance at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands, and her UK & EU tour later this year. Originally set for February of this year, the tour will see Rundle perform at London’s Clapham Grand and at Arctangent Festival in Bristol among other UK dates. The tour which sees a combined schedule of festival appearances and lone performances from ERR, will kick off in Losboa in Portugal at the start of July before wrapping up in Brighton on August 23rd. The full list of tour dates can be viewed here.
Orpheus Looking Back will release March 25th via Sargent House, and the album’s artwork and full tracklist can be viewed below. For our upcoming full review of Orpheus Looking Back, and everything Emma Ruth Rundle, keep it locked on Boolin Tunes.
