East Anglia based death metal band Celestial Sanctuary recharge their torment cannons for a new album releasing on the 25th August 2023. Insatiable Thirst for Torment, releasing through Church Road Records, sees them reaching toward the extreme and obscene. The band don’t shy away from genre classification and are proud to toot their trumpets for a new wave of British death metal.
The album’s release cycle leads with “Biomineralization (Cell Death)”. After a blood vessel popping start, the tempo slows to Celestial Sanctuary’s natural ‘slow’ death metal pace – a perfect headbanging tempo. For a first single, it’s structurally complex, which is interesting as the Soul Diminished material favoured ‘reasonably’ straightforward structures. The new production blows their previous work out of the water: driving drums punch like a nailgun, guitars scrape around like fingernails on coffin lids, and vocals that are both direct and astral.
The band have already played a few tracks from Insatiable Thirst for Torment live at Desertfest ‘23 (“Glutted With Chunder” and “Trapped Within The Rank Membrane”). They’ll get that chance again as they support Frozen Soul and Wallowing in London and Cardiff in early August. The record’s fantastically grotesque sci fi artwork comes from James Bousema, who you might recognise from Frozen Soul’s Glacial Domination.
Insatiable Thirst for Torment will be out on the 25th August, and you can find pre-order info at Church Road Records or the band’s Bandcamp page.
