Firewalker have today returned with brand new single “Carry My Own Torch” that comes with the announcement of their sophomore full-length Hell Bent, which is set to release this coming June via Triple B Records. The single touches on the topic of breaking away and reclaiming independent from a toxic relationship, packed with the 80s tinged metallic hardcore that Firewalker have refined over a near-decade.
After their explosive debut demo in 2016, Firewalker continued their momentum, releasing their self-titled LP in 2017, The Roll Call EP in 2019 and their latest demo in 2022. Firewalker have now refined their lineup with guitarists Sarah King and Cecelia Halle, moving toward a heavier sound while continuing to advocate for the underrepresented and alienated in the hardcore scene. The album, recorded, mixed, and mastered by drummer Sasha Stroud at her studio, Artifact Audio, in NYC, packs intense vocals, electrifying guitar solos, and powerful drums into just under 20 minutes.
Discussing the record, the band had this to say, “After being a band for nearly ten years, we wanted to create an album that captured how we have progressed musically, both in terms of instrumentation and inspiration,” shared Halle. “Since the beginning of Firewalker, we have drawn inspiration from Madball’s progression as a band: starting with the simplicity and genius of ‘Ball of Destruction’ and developing towards heavier and metallic albums like ‘Set it Off.’ With that in mind, the writing of the album drew heavily from our influences in hardcore and metal—trying to capture the spirit of late 80s metallic hardcore while holding true to our roots as a Boston hardcore band.”
Hell Bent will release June 28th via Triple B Records, and can be pre-ordered here. The full artwork can be viewed below along with the tracklist. For a full review of Hell Bent, keep an eye on BoolinTunes.
