BORIS and UNIFORM Announce Collaboration Album ‘Bright New Disease’

Boris X Uniform

Boris have been a band for thirty years producing heavy music with staggering breadth. They’ve mastered everything between hardcore, punk, psychadelic, doom, and traditional heavy metal. They’ve even extensively explored noise and atmosphere on seminal records like Flood or the recent fade. It’s hard to overstate their uniqueness, and they’ve rightly become revered for everything they do, whilst being key ambassadors for the Japanese heavy music scene. Uniform take a precise approach to making hardcore industrial music. They’re the younger band here, but are by no means inexperienced – for example, two members took part in weird rock band Zs for their dreanged masterpiece New Slaves. These two bands today annouce a collaboration record titled Bright New Disease, to be released through Sacred Bones Records on June 16, 2023.

This announcement comes with the single “You Are The Beginning“, a dizzying noise-punk-single that alternates between typical Boris and Uniform moments. The two guitar solos are ultimate Wata (Boris) and Ben Greenberg (Uniform) performances. Boris‘ music is broad, but this collaboration will break new ground toward the grim industrial edge that Uniform keep.

Bright New Disease will have been a labour of love for both bands as it was constructed from demos exchanged over the pandemic, just after the two acts toured the US together in 2019. Uniform are no strangers to collaboration, having released not one but two records with The Body. Arguably, Boris defined what it means to put two very heavy bands together with Altar, their full-length record with Sunn O))) from 2006. Another significant collaborator in Boris‘ past is Merzbow, an apt comparison here, as Uniform work noisescapes into their songs wherever possible. This means we can expect this collaboration will veer toward blaring noise on multiple occasions, gods willing.

Bright New Disease, will be released on Sacred Bones Records on the 16th June 2023.
