“Clouds of misery, there’s something in the air, these scars are shallow, dip your hands into the well to see through this pain.”
Deafheaven return to Nottingham in Triumphant form, balancing long-standing fan favourites alongside soon to be classics from this year’s Lonely People With Power all delivered with the urgency and emotional weight which sees them held in such high regard. The night was perfectly paced by support acts Zeruel – who presented a consuming atmosphere of deep noise and dense soundscapes, perfectly channelling the ethereal, post-rock side of Deafheaven‘s signature sound and Portrayal of Guilt, whose visceral blast of raw, suffocating intensity and relentless screaming completely hammered home the sheer black metal aggression at the music’s core. These openers primed the crowd with the two extremes of the genre, setting the stage for Deafheaven’s masterful fusion of beauty and chaos.
