IN COVERSATION: 2025 In Summary with The Soundboard

What if the diamond days are all gone?

Welcome to In Conversation, our interview column where we pick the brains of artists on the cutting edge of music. In a rare edition of this podcast, we had a sit down with Luke Nuttall of The Soundboard to summarise the highs and lows of 2025.

This time around, we’ll leave it to our recorded alone to guide the way. No write up, no time stamps, just a huge chat that covers as much as we could fit into our busy schedules this year. We touch on much of our end of year lists (LPs, EPs, singles) and a lot of discussion on what’s been divisive and straight up bad this year. We mention heavy hitters such as Deftones, Turnstile, Spiritbox, Ethel Cain, and Sleep Token, as well as the deathcore and metalcore revivals (and upcoming(?) screamo revolution).

Much of the discussion concerns the ‘bad’ aspects of 2025, something we feel The Soundboard has captured uniquely with their output, and drove us to contacting the site to include them in a discussion. Head to their site for excellent coverage of the highs and lows and their insights across pop and rock this year.

At the end of the chat, we discuss what it’s like to run a ‘music website’ in 2025, which, if you’ve read this far, might well be a topic that interests you. If you’d like to be involved in writing at either of our sites, hit up the ‘contact us’ page or ping our socials, we’d love to hear from you.
