“Our blood oils the machine, we’re going to watch it burn.“
Chaos Theory are a premiere promotor for live sounds from the very fringes of sound itself, and have now been active for fiveteen years putting on shows across London. They celebrated this milestone by hosting on one of their biggest events to date – not just one, but two festival days, with stacked line ups from the UK’s wierd underground. The first date was held on the 1st March at New River Studios, where we’ve previously caught a Chaos Theory show, hosting a staggering thirteen acts across almost twelve hours. Although we missed covering the first day of the fest, the line up featured the following: Haress, Kate Smith, Lia Mice, For Breakfast, Sans Froid, Thee Alcoholics, Sly & The Family Drone, Peach, CLT DRP, UKAEA, Aja Ireland and Hesska.
The following weekend pulled the sounds towards metal – especially doom and black, with strains of punk and improvisation – and brought the action to Camden’s Underworld, which we were able to catch in full: Mournhold post-doomers Morag Tong, doom ritualists Codex Serafini, queer punk expansionists Shooting Daggers, brass-enhanced doom merchants Five The Heirophant, post metal monoliths Hundred Year Old Man, black metal anti-fascists Underdark, and finally blackened hardcore heavyweights Svalbard. All of these artists are ones we consider essential to the UK’s wierd-and-heavy scene, and we’ve been able to feature almost them all in some capacity at Boolin Tunes (now we finally add Five The Heirophant to our ‘collection’).
Shot on the 8th March by Graham Ransom. Contact Graham prior to any use.
The next Chaos Theory show will be the legendary Toby Driver (of Kayo Dot and maudlin of the Well) performing solo and with his project Alora Crucible, coming up soon on Saturday 12th April, New River Studios. Acquire tickets here and keep up with their show announcements here.
