Few bands can boast the creativity of American quartet Silent Planet, who have, since forming in 2009, continued to reinvent themselves both lyrically and sonically. Today the progressive metalcore titans have announced the details of their upcoming fifth album, SUPERBLOOM, with a music video for their latest single “Collider” below.
The record is set to release on the anniversary of the band’s ‘encounter with the other side,’ which saw their van upturn during a snowstorm in Wyoming and which has so clearly influenced the writing of the record. “The majority of us were awake when we felt the van start to slide,” comments vocalist Garrett Russell. “We had some time to come to grips with the fact we were about to go down and have a close brush with death. Afterwards, we talked about what to do with the band. We went back into the record with an increased willingness to take risks. It bolstered our confidence to try new things. When the accident happened, it did something to my head, and it fed into the album.“
SUPERBLOOM comes just two years on, nearly to the day, from the release of the group’s prior effort, Iridescent, and the singles have already displayed evolution, including the increased prominence of clean singing and an expert dabbling with thall aided by the unmistakeable hand of producer Buster Odeholm (in addition to long-time collaborator Daniel Braunstein).
“A superbloom is this strange moment where brilliant fauna spring forth unexpectedly and bring forth such an array of colors, it almost feels alien in origin,” Garrett explains. “It only lasts for a couple of weeks before it’s gone. While we were recording, the superbloom was happening. For me, the record is getting in touch with the other side and watching the strange and paranormal emerge from the mundane and profane, hence the title.“
SUPERBLOOM kicks off a new era for a group who refuse to stagnate. Having embarked on a UK and EU tour earlier this year, Silent Planet have also announced a string of live shows across the US through November, which will see dates in support of Dayseeker and Haste the Day respectively, as well as a handful of deserved headline shows.
SUPERBLOOM will release on November 3rd via Solid State Records, and you can pre-order it here. The tracklist, track lengths, and artwork can be viewed below. For a full review of SUPERBLOOM and further metalcore news, keep an eye on Boolin Tunes.
