The ever-illusive British metal quartet Sleep Token have announced their sophomore full-length release, titled This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and have shared a brand new single titled “Alkaline“. You can view the track’s official video below.
Sleep Token’s brand of the highly juxtaposing—blending chamber-y, melancholy pop ballads with the crushing brutality of their breakdowns—is back in full force on “Alkaline“. With layered synths, groovy chugs and soaring vocals replete, if this song is a sign of things to come, This Place Will Become Your Tomb will be a treat.
The album will be the first official follow-up to their 2019 breakthrough album, Sundowning. The release was followed by a deluxe reissue in 2020, featuring a new song, a stripped back version of “Blood Sport“, and two covers.
The record seems to be following a more traditional release structure, versus the extended campaign efforts with Sundowning, building hype by releasing every song in sequence every other Thursday at sundown. Further, “Alkaline” marks the group’s first foray into an official music video since 2018’s “The Way That You Were“, with the group instead opting for visualisers for each song on Sundowning.
